Recall! At Lidl, eggs are recalled for salmonella

Recall from Lidl: Salmonella discovered in organic eggs

Salmonella has been discovered in organic eggs sold at the food discount store Lidl. These bacteria can cause severe gastrointestinal disorders. Certain batches of the product are therefore now recalled.

Salmonella detected in eggs

As the supermarket chain Lidl writes in a customer information, Eifrisch-Vermarktung GmbH & Co. KG calls the product ÔÇťOrganic Eggs [Gr. M, L, XL], 10-pack "of the laying farm" Farm Bio-Eierhof Papenburg GbR "with the print number 0-DE-0359721 (see print on the egg) and the best-before dates 09.08.2018, 15.08.2018 and 20.08.2018 ( see sticker on the packaging). "Salmonella Enteritidis was detected in the course of self-examinations," says the message. These bacteria can cause diarrhea and other health problems.

Sold by Lidl in three federal states

According to the information, the product concerned was sold at Lidl Germany in the federal states of Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate.

The company reacted immediately and removed the affected eggs from the sale. The goods can be returned in all Lidl branches. The purchase price will also be reimbursed without presentation of the receipt.

Other eggs sold at Lidl Germany are not affected by the recall.

Bacteria can cause dangerous gastrointestinal diseases

"Salmonella can trigger severe stomach / intestinal diseases (salmonellosis)", says the customer information.

"Because of this health risk, customers should pay attention to the recall and not consume the affected product."

The disease occurs a few hours to days after the infection and manifests itself primarily through sudden onset diarrhea, abdominal pain, malaise, feeling cold and headache.

In some cases, vomiting and mild fever are added.

The symptoms usually go away on their own after a few hours or days.

However, fluid loss due to diarrhea and vomiting can be dangerous for infants, young children, the elderly and people with a weakened immune system. (ad)
